Educational estimates, with visible assumptions
PlanArith calculators are designed to help you organize financial facts, understand relationships between inputs, compare planning scenarios, and identify questions worth exploring. Outputs are educational estimates—not predictions, approvals, offers, valuations, or instructions to take a particular action.
Breakdowns, schedules, projections, and charts can make a plan easier to reason about. Their usefulness depends on applying the calculation to the right question and recognizing the assumptions it does and does not model.
Not professional advice or a professional relationship
General educational explanations cannot account for every law, product term, household priority, risk tolerance, tax position, benefit rule, or personal circumstance. Do not treat a result as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who has reviewed your complete situation.
Results depend on your inputs and assumptions
Each result is generated from the values you submit and the calculator's stated method. Incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or unrealistic inputs can produce a misleading result. Even accurate current values may not capture irregular cash flow, contractual details, changing household needs, or events not represented by the calculator.
Review every important assumption, including dates, balances, contributions, rates, fees, inflation, taxes, income, expenses, insurance resources, and time horizons. Scenario comparisons illustrate the assumptions selected; they do not assign probabilities to those scenarios.
Projections, future conditions, and rounding
Investment returns, inflation, interest rates, tax rules, fees, wages, expenses, aid, benefits, credit terms, and insurance costs can change—often materially. A projection that uses a constant rate or a simplified sequence will not reproduce the volatility, timing, taxes, or transaction rules of every real-world outcome. Past or assumed performance does not guarantee future results.
PlanArith retains raw numeric values during calculation and formats figures for display. Currency, percentage, date, chart, and schedule formatting may round displayed values, so visible line items can differ slightly from a displayed total or from another tool that rounds at a different step.
Important limits by calculator category
Budgeting and net worth
The Monthly Budget Calculator organizes submitted income and allocations, while the Net Worth Calculator compares submitted assets and liabilities and models selected changes. These tools do not verify balances, determine whether an expense is necessary, value illiquid assets, or capture every tax, transaction cost, timing difference, contingent obligation, or cash-flow event.
Emergency funds and savings goals
The Emergency Fund Calculator estimates a reserve from selected expenses and scenarios. The Savings Goal Calculator models contributions, growth, fees, inflation, and deposits from submitted assumptions. Neither tool can predict the timing or cost of an emergency, guarantee access to funds, or ensure that a savings plan will remain affordable or earn the assumed return.
Debt payoff and debt consolidation
The Debt Payoff Calculator compares payoff ordering strategies, and the Debt Consolidation Calculator compares submitted debts with a hypothetical fixed-rate loan. Results do not constitute a credit offer or eligibility decision and may not model every compounding convention, variable rate, penalty, promotional term, fee, delinquency, credit-score effect, or lender payment-allocation rule.
College savings
The College Savings Calculator estimates costs, aid, savings growth, funding gaps, and withdrawals under selected assumptions. Actual tuition, living costs, enrollment choices, aid formulas, tax treatment, account rules, returns, and family resources may differ. An estimate is not an aid award or a promise that funds will be sufficient.
Retirement readiness and FIRE
The Retirement Readiness Calculator and FIRE Calculator model long periods using submitted contribution, income, spending, inflation, return, withdrawal, and longevity assumptions. They cannot predict market sequences, lifespan, health and care costs, benefit rules, tax changes, account restrictions, or the sustainability of a withdrawal strategy in your particular circumstances.
Life insurance needs
The Life Insurance Needs Calculator estimates household obligations and resources under selected scenarios. It is not underwriting, a coverage quote, a suitability determination, or an evaluation of a policy's exclusions, premiums, riders, tax effects, insurer strength, or claims process. Coverage availability and terms are determined by insurers and applicable law.
Financial providers may calculate differently
Banks, credit unions, lenders, card issuers, insurers, retirement-plan administrators, schools, government agencies, tax authorities, and investment providers may use definitions, calendars, rounding, rates, compounding, fees, underwriting criteria, eligibility rules, and legal requirements that differ from a PlanArith estimate. Their official documents and calculations control their products and decisions.
Verify important results independently
Recheck inputs, reproduce key figures with another reliable method, and review current statements, contracts, disclosures, plan documents, and government guidance. Before borrowing, consolidating debt, changing insurance, investing, changing tax strategy, funding education, retiring, or making another significant decision, consult appropriately qualified and licensed professionals as needed.
- Ask a financial professional about planning tradeoffs and risk.
- Ask a tax professional about current tax consequences.
- Ask an attorney about legal rights, documents, or jurisdiction-specific rules.
- Confirm product calculations and terms directly with the relevant provider.
No product or provider recommendation
The current PlanArith calculators do not recommend, rank, sell, broker, or endorse a specific financial product, security, lender, insurer, school, account, or provider. A generic product category or hypothetical rate is an input to an educational comparison, not a solicitation or endorsement.
No guarantee of completeness, accuracy, or suitability
